DC34 Badge Light Studio

DC34 Badge Light Studio

Give your DEF CON 34 badge any light pattern – full-spectrum rainbows, the rare Uber white-chaser, warm/cool palettes, and more. Non-destructive: it uses the badge’s own trade protocol, previews on-device, and rolls back if you don’t like it. No firmware changes.

1 – Choose your look

Live preview – approximate. Your badge blends this with its current pattern; multi-trade looks show the target.

2 – Give it your badge’s nonce

On the badge, press left or right to show its nonce QR. Then either:

3 – Generate & scan

Put the badge in scan/camera mode (middle button) and point it at this QR. Keep it and enjoy – or roll back on-device.

Badge types & how breeding works

Every DC34 badge has a “type” that locks it to a color personality:

  • Human – the default, cyan to blue.
  • Goon – red.
  • Community – yellow-green.
  • Village – green.
  • Other – blue.
  • CTF Contest – blue-purple.
  • Uber – the rare one: magenta and red, dimmer overall, and the white “chaser” dot sweeping the ring.

When two badges trade, each gives half its genes (a “gamete”), and your badge mixes your half with theirs into a brand-new pattern. Dominance rules pick the winner: a wider color range wins, higher saturation wins, and the white chaser is dominant-off, so only an Uber-with-Uber trade reliably keeps it. A little random mutation makes every result unique, which is why some rare traits take a few trades to lock in.

This tool lets you play the other badge. Pick a real badge type above and it rolls a valid gamete of that type, or use the custom color schemes for looks a normal badge could not breed on its own.

Is this safe / legit? Yes. The DC34 badge’s light game shares one population-wide key that the badge team publicly disclosed, and the designer (bunnie) explicitly anticipated tools like this. It runs entirely in your browser, changes nothing about your badge’s firmware, and every trade is previewed with a keep/rollback prompt on the device. Your badge stays convertible to a FIDO security token. Nonces are single-use and expire in about a minute – if a trade doesn’t take, reveal a fresh nonce and try again. Keep the badge powered on from reveal to scan.
