I’m Skylar Pearce. I work in IT infrastructure — currently as Director of IT Infrastructure at Jacobs Entertainment, where I run the team that operates the IT stack across six casino properties.
I’ve been doing IT since 2013. The first decade was hands-on systems work — Active Directory, vCenter, networking, phones, scripting my way through whatever was in front of me. The last few years have been a transition: from doing the IT work directly to leading a team that does it, while spending more of my own time on internal tools, AI agents, and the broader IT strategy.
What I actually do now is harder to label. I’m not a coder — I’m an operator who knows how systems fit together, points AI at the right cuts, validates the output, and ships the result. The role doesn’t have a settled name yet, but the work is real: small, focused internal tools that replace painful workflows; AI-augmented automation that runs while the team sleeps; training rollouts that get non-technical employees up and running with their own personal AI agents.
This site is where I write about that work. Some posts are deep-dives on specific builds — the audit-cycle portal that took a 3-week manual process down to 3 hours; the AI training session design lessons from a recent dry-run with senior peers. Others are pattern-level — what the meta-shift from “ChatGPT helps me” to “the agent does the work” actually looks like in a real org, where it lands and where it doesn’t.
I write about this stuff because most of the people doing it are inside companies and never make it visible. The patterns are valuable, but they only become valuable if other people can find them.
